Nation of Language
Nation of Language is a Brooklyn-based synth-pop band led by songwriter Ian Devaney. Drawing on post-punk, minimal wave and new wave, the group is known for icy, driving synthesizers and emotionally direct songwriting. Their acclaimed catalog includes the debut album Introduction, Presence (2020), A Way Forward (2021) and Strange Disciple (2023), which was named Rough Trade’s Album of the Year. Their fourth album, Dance Called Memory (2025), marked the band’s Sub Pop debut and features “Inept Apollo,” a single that reached the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay Top 20.
